Directions from the Strip: Head North on Las Vegas Boulevard to Charleston Avenue. Make a left and continue on Charleston approximately 20 miles (the traffic lights will end on the edge of town). Look for the signs to Red Rock Canyon on the right side of the road. Stop at the entrance booth and pay the entrance fee. The info center has maps, displays and rangers on hand to answer questions.
Once you enter Red Rock Canyon you forget the bright lights of the Strip or Downtown. It has an "other worldly" feel about it. The 13 mile drive has a number

of stopping points that allow you to get out of the car, stretch and walk around. There are paths at many of the stops that get you "up close and personal" with the rock formations in Red Rock Canyon. Pick up a trail guide at the visitor center, the trails are not marked very well. During the summer months (May to September) remember to bring enough water to drink. The loop that you will be driving is one way and the temperature is generally very hot. This is even more important if you are planning on hiking the trails. Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to be back.

Each of the stopping points around the loop presents a different view of the park. Click on any of the photos for a better view of the pictures. The colors seem to change as the sun crosses the sky. Early morning colors are differnet than mid-afternoon or late day colors. It is hard to imagine how close you are to Las Vegas. Take your time and enjoy the landscape, you'll be back to Vegas in no time!
